Meta and Jio Platform in India are collaborating to launch a pilot project in India. Testing of the project started two years ago. According to the agreement between JioMart grocery shopping and WhatsApp, Indian users will be able to do their grocery shopping via WhatsApp. When the project goes into effect, it will be a first in the world.
Grocery shopping has never been done from a messaging app before. If the project is successful, WhatsApp’s umbrella organization Meta can put the project into effect in other countries. But we don’t think it will cooperate with JioMart in other countries because JioMart is an India based company and its service area is Indian customers.
Users will be able to pay with UPI while grocery shopping via WhatsApp
Unified Payments Interface is an instant real-time payment system developed by National Payments Corporation of India. When payment comes to mind, security is one of the most important problems. At this point, the UPI will step in. UPI is a secure payment system that has been used in India for a long time. Being a local system also adds an advantage to it.
“Excited to launch our partnership with JioMart in India. This is our first-ever end-to-end shopping experience on WhatsApp — people can now buy groceries from JioMart right in a chat. Business messaging is an area with real momentum and chat-based experiences like this will be the go-to way people and businesses communicate in the years to come,” Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, said.
Meta is a key investor in Telecommunications company Jio Platforms, which has more than 421 million subscribers. Therefore, the meeting of these two companies is not new. Jio has been dazzling recently in its work in the field of 5G.
Do you think this move of these two companies that they are familiar with will be successful in India? Please share your thoughts on this topic with us in the comments!
